Upon starting at Chatham Grammar our new Year 7 students took part in an exciting, thought-provoking two-day transitions project. The bespoke Imagined Cities Transitions project, was developed by the University of Kent, and was delivered by academy staff.
Students took part in three exciting challenges:
Students designed and presented an imaginary city based on passages from novels.
Students performed various social tasks for their city: students had to create a sustainability plan, form a political party to govern the city, and design a school for their city.
Students needed to respond to an emergency, creating and transmitting a code to communicate secret information to protect their city.
The feedback was extremely positive and students were quoted as saying:
“I am very happy that I can go to a wonderful school and meet many talented people.”
“I feel absolutely elated about going to a new school. The journey is going to be great!”
“I have enjoyed the teamwork tasks as they have helped me get more familiar with my new
classmates. I really like the first activity because it had a bit of a link with art, and I really like art.”
“I have made new friends and I am extremely happy that the staff are very kind and helped us whenever we needed it.”
